Axum - Gondar

19 May 2016

I can only describe Axum as being like the wild west. It's just a stange place to the point where it has turned me into a rude, moody bitch and purposfully making zero effort to speak Amharic and only speaking English, totally being an ignorant tourist.

So perhaps it's good I am leaving and heading to Gondar.

Arrived into Gondar airport and saw a lady stood on her own waiting for her luggage. I went right over and introduced myself. She is an American Japanese who is just travelling briefly. We took a tuk tuk together into town and just hung out doing the sights and having dinner. Gondar is really nice and is studded with impressive castles. They are about 400 years old so not ancient by any means but they are really pretty and I like this city.

Me ( looks like I could be in Cambodia)

I am in Gondor for one reason. I am using it as a gateway to the Simien Mountains to go trekking for a few days. The original quotes I received were crazy, ranging from $800 to $400. Eventually I managed to haggle it down to $200 for 3 days, 2 nights.
