Addis Ababa - a whirl wind tour

13/5/2016 Addis Ababa

After a night huddled under a big heavy blanet as a mosquito tried to attack me (I could hear that high pitched zzz sound all night) I woke up fairly early.

I wanted to get an Ethiopian sim card so I asked the reception and they got a driver to come with me to get one. Thankfully I had company as I would never have worked out where to go to get one.

I am only spending one day in Addis as I want to get out of the city pretty sharpish. So I decided to hire a guide to wizz me around some places to see.

I was getting picked by a tour guide called Sam. She's some lady who I found on the internet.

She arrived along with her husdand as a driver. From there we set off to the Entoto hills, about 3200m above sea level. The drive through the city was chaotic and really filthy. I could feel my chest tighten up with all the pollution. We drove up to the hills and had a little look.

After we went to a few museums Ethnographic Museum and National museum where I got to see 'Lucy' the famous humanoid that was found in Ethiopia. I got to visit the Holy Trinity church. The tour was kind of okay. I think I am okay with museums from here on in.

For lunch we had more injera. I really think Im done with the stuff.

My guesthouse is based in a really residential area. I decided to take a walk. Lots of people just milling around along with their cows, goats and chickens. I got a lot of shouts of 'China' and little kids wanting to high five me. I have decided to embrace it and just smile everytime I get shouted at or high fived.
